How to Clean Window Sills and Tracks Without Scrubbing

Diana Valle

Hi there! My name is Diana Valle! As the owner of our small family-owned phoenix metro cleaning company Honest Maids, I am always experimenting with new and clever ways to clean random items throughout my home and patio. The best I can do the better we can do as a service to all our clients across Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.

Today I share with you a clever simple way to clean window tracks since they can be a bit tedious and messy to clean. Super simple, here's how!

Window trac k s can be very messy and difficult to clean; the space in the tracks are often thin small edges that make the task what it is — FRUSTRATING. We have tried using vacuums to get some of the dirt out, but even our Shark or Dyson vacuums aren't enough.

The problem is that dirt is slowly built up with the weather, moisture, and sun the thin dusty build-up is often caked on the surfaces making it a tough job for most vacuums.

You either have to soak up washcloths or somehow try to brush up the mess to loosen things up.

BUT because I have had so much luck with baking soda and vinegar in other areas of my house, such as our vegan cakes — YUP! We're fully vegan in our house, I figured that I would try this mixture elsewhere! Here is what the window tracks look like.

It took me about two minutes to clean the bottom track. No scrubbing involved.
Here is what you will need:
-white distilled vinegar
-baking soda
-tissue or wash clothes
-paper towel or other absorbent cloth

Here is How to Clean Window Sills and Tracks without scrubbing in 4 steps:
1. Sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on window track. More is not better here…unless you want a fizzy mess to clean up. To give you an idea of how much I used: When cleaning a window approximately four feet across, I used just a few teaspoons of baking soda.

2. I poured a small amount of vinegar on the window track, about 1/4 cup total. You don't want to add too much but just enough to make sure the powder is all consumed along. I think one gallon from your local Walmart store should be enough to help you clean all windows in a typical home.

3. There was no scrubbing involved. I simply used the cloths to help loosen up the dirt and wiped across the surface. Everything has been loosen and lifted by the chemical reaction.
This way of cleaning may not be the most efficient for our cleaners to do at our clients' homes whenever we're hired to go do deep cleans but it definitely does help you at home whenever you feel like you're up to the challenge!

Now there is no challenge! No Scrubbing or Brushing involved at all.

My name is Diana, I am a baseball mom of two boys, married and run our cleaning company, Honest Maids, with the greatest pride and joy.
